| Major new album from one of VT’s central obsession, Japanese underground femme Sachiko, ex of Kousokuya/Overhang Party. This LP is pressed on 180g vinyl and comes in a run of only 350 copies. The first side is a completely mesmerising stone. Accompanied by Rinji Fukuoka (Overhang Party) on voice and cello, Sachiko sounds as if she is gargling planets as she levitates wordless vocals through a slowly shifting bible-black background of orchestral drone and Eternal Music strings generated by vortices of cello and viola and hovering electronics. Can’t think of anything that so beautifully combines the vision of the original Dream Syndicate with the aesthetics of dark Japanese psychedelia. On the flip there are two tracks, both of which extend the time-blurring effects of the first side into new zones of heavenly tonefloat, with Sachiko’s high vocal style dissolving in butterflies of F/X while electronics hiss and spit and intergalactic shortwave travels through endless space. Easily the best record she has made to date, a mesmeric slice of higher-minded drone narcosis and a classic Japanese underground side. Highly recommended. -Volcanic Tongue- | |

| New album by big VT fave Sachiko of Vava Kitora/Kousokuya/Overhang Party et al. zUnya is a sustained single track work for forests of ghost overtones and ululating electronics with Sachiko’s haunted choral vocals floating through the mix like sighing clouds. It feels almost like a more muzzy, hallucinogen fuelled take on the sleight-of-hand minimalism of Maryanne Amacher, with what at first appears as a monolithic Hototogisu-style wall of smoke gradually fluxing into various organic misshapes, until the sound has the quality of light, of different intensities of light against an out-of-focus backdrop. I guess it’s cinematic in that sense, but more Brakhage than widescreen technicolour. The movements of drone thunderbolts eventually give way to swooning solo vocals, single blooms of tone from out of the void, before the light breaks through once more and overwhelms the vocals with beams of pure tone. Another totally bewitching releases from Sachiko, one that could spend days inside. Highly recommended. -Volcanic Tongue- | |

Hvel is Sachiko痴 (Overhang Party, ex-Kousukoya) third
solo album, after the purple vocal haze of You Never Atone
For and the equally breathtaking Kunado, released last
year on Utech. This one contains two, gutwrenching live
performances at Tokyo痴 Loopline. First track features
Reiko.A of former Merzbow fame and travels through a thick,
hazy fog of shimmering wordless vocals before collapsing
face down in a pool of electronic voodoo damage. On the
second, shorter piece Sachiko breathes out her zoned out
mantra痴 and washes of cosmic vocal beauty as if she痴 honouring
Yoshi Wada痴 monumental spirit. A mesmerizing mayhem for

| sometimes, persistence really pays off in the end. jooklo-contributor luca massolin worked for ages on putting together a release for digitalis and just when it seemed like it might not come together, this absolute gem turned up. "kaleidopea" is as accomplished as golden cup has ever been. chattering walls of synth debris find the perfect balance between foreign and familiar leading you down diamond paths. just when it feels like everything is closing in around you, massolin breaks out the guitar and you're in a different place entirely.things really cook as the inimitable sachiko adds her voice to the mix. again, it's all in the balance. on the flipside, hypnotic synth underpinnings are the perfect canvas for massolin's delay-strewn guitar and sachiko's incredible voice. as the synth repeats over and over it leaves plenty of room for the guitar and voice to interact and suck you under. it's disjointed enough to keep you from totally drifting away, each off-kilter moment snapping you back to reality, but overall the effect is pretty goddamn mesmerising. eventually we all settle down and get lost in the waves. unbelievable. edition of 80, pro-dubbed. gold-on-red silkscreened covers. - Digitalis Limited - | |
